About Etiosa
Hello. I’m so glad to find you here.
I’m Faith, the founder of Etiosa and it’s my mission to make travel more accessible to young ‘Women of Colour’ living in urban areas.
As a child, my dad would wake us up in the middle of the night and tell us to get ready for a road trip to Germany, or France, or somewhere else in Europe. Having family around the world also meant that by the time I was 10 years old, I had been to 5 countries across 3 continents. I had the privelege of experiencing different cultures from a very young age, and I am forever seeking that feeling.
Fast-forward to adulthood and it had been years since I’d last been on a holiday. I had two major barriers: 1. That I was working minimum wage and had no money, 2. That even if I wanted to travel, nobody else was willing to come with me, and 3. Many of the countries I wanted to travel would feel unsafe as a Black, female solo traveller. For a lot of people, the dream to travel ends right there. However, after watching what seemed like every single travel video on YouTube, and reading every single post under the Google search “is Denmark, racist?”, I finally took the plunge and traveled solo to Copenhagen on my minimum wage budget.
The travel itch never stopped and I went on to visit both France and Morocco that year. COVID came along shortly after and although all my globe-trotting plans were ruined, I developed an absoloute love for road trips and hiking. I have visited many of the National Parks and Area’s of Outstanding Natural Beauty around the UK and continue to do so even now that COVID restrictions have been eased. Luckily, I’ve been able to pick up on global travel again too! You can check out some of my UK and international galavanting blogs here.
Through Etiosa I not only hope to inspire other young Black people to explore the world, but also to bring groups of peope together who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity. Travel can be seriously daunting but our goal is to make it easy for you to make new friends, create new memories, and learn more about the world. Our motto is that this planet is home to all of us and we all deserve to experience it.
