FAQ’s
How does a group trip with Etiosa work?
Etiosa group trips are an inclusive space to socialise, de-stress from city life and learn more about the beautiful destinations within the UK. You will be guided by a group co-ordinator to keep everything on track.
Can anyone join?
Etiosa was founded to encourage ‘Women of Colour’ to travel and explore. As this is a group for young adults to connect, we expect those joining to be between the ages of 21 – 35. You will need to become a member in order to get access to the details of any upcoming trips.
I’ve signed up to become a member, now what?
You will receive a welcome email from Etiosa within 24 hours, providing you with details to acces upcoming trip details and you’ll also be added to our WhatsApp group. You’ll receive an update via email and WhatsApp when the details for a new trip are out, allowing you to RSVP. You must RSVP to come along, we need to know numbers!
I’m not very fit, will I be okay on a hike?
Most of our hikes are moderate and great for beginners. Our hikes are usually 3-4 hours with plenty of time to rest in between, but most people have surprised themselves with how far they are able to walk! We’re a new community, so hopefully we can all grow our hiking experience and intensity together over time. On specific event pages, you’ll find info about the difficulty of the walk.
How do I get there?
Each trip will be in a different location and you will be expected to make your own way there. If you’ve signed up as a member, you will receive emails/WhatsApp message with details of the starting location and nearest train stations as well as public transport routes from London and nearby car parks. If you need help figuring out your route, get in touch.
I’m worried about joining a trip on my own
It’s normal to feel anxious about travelling, let alone with a group of strangers but rest assured, you won’t be the only one that doesn’t know anybody and our trips are centered around helping you all make connections. For our longer trips, there will be icebreakers to help you get to know the group, a group co-ordinator to chat to, as well as the option to explore on your own if you need to clear your head.
Will food be included?
If you need some extra energy on a day hike, ask the group co-ordinator for some snacks, she’ll have some on her! There will also be water available in the group co-ordinators car, which you may not be able to access until after the hike so make sure you bring a bottle! There will sometimes be a chance for a group meal after the walk, and you will be expected to cover the costs of this yourself.
Why aren’t we going abroad?
We are planning to go gobal in the very near future!
Do you accept refunds?
Most of our events are free, although we accept donations when you RSVP. For paid trips (e.g. weekenders and trips abroad), we do not accept refunds under most circumstances as most activites cannot be refunded once purchased. You will be refunded in the rare event of cancellation on the organisers side.
